يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْمُدَّثِّرُ١

[74:1] O you keeper of the secret.

قُمْ فَأَنذِرْ٢

[74:2] Rise up and warn.

وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ٣

[74:3] And extol your Lord.

وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ٤

[74:4] And cleanse your garment.

-

وَٱلرُّجْزَ فَٱهْجُرْ٥

[74:5] And forsake error.

وَلَا تَمْنُن تَسْتَكْثِرُ٦

[74:6] And do not desire wealth.

وَلِرَبِّكَ فَٱصْبِرْ٧

[74:7] And stand by your Lord patiently.

فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِى ٱلنَّاقُورِ٨

[74:8] Then, when the trumpet sounds,-

فَذَٰلِكَ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ يَوْمٌ عَسِيرٌ٩

[74:9] -that will be a difficult day,-

عَلَى ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ غَيْرُ يَسِيرٍۢ١٠

[74:10] -it will not be easy for the unfaithful.

ذَرْنِى وَمَنْ خَلَقْتُ وَحِيدًۭا١١

[74:11] Let Me deal with the one whom I created as an individual.

وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُۥ مَالًۭا مَّمْدُودًۭا١٢

[74:12] And I gave him abundant wealth,-

وَبَنِينَ شُهُودًۭا١٣

[74:13] -and sons to behold.

وَمَهَّدتُّ لَهُۥ تَمْهِيدًۭا١٤

[74:14] And I made everything easy for him.

ثُمَّ يَطْمَعُ أَنْ أَزِيدَ١٥

[74:15] Yet he is greedy for more.

كَلَّآ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لِءَايَٰتِنَا عَنِيدًۭا١٦

[74:16] He absolutely refused to acknowledge Our proofs.

سَأُرْهِقُهُۥ صَعُودًا١٧

[74:17] I will increasingly humiliate him.

إِنَّهُۥ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ١٨

[74:18] For indeed he pondered and decided.

فَقُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ١٩

[74:19] Therefore, woe to him for his decision.

ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ٢٠

[74:20] Then again, woe to him for his decision.

ثُمَّ نَظَرَ٢١

[74:21] He then looked.

ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ٢٢

[74:22] Then he frowned and he scowled.

ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ وَٱسْتَكْبَرَ٢٣

[74:23] Then he turned his back and became arrogant.

فَقَالَ إِنْ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌۭ يُؤْثَرُ٢٤

[74:24] He then said; this is nothing but clever magic.

إِنْ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا قَوْلُ ٱلْبَشَرِ٢٥

[74:25] This is no more than the word of a human.

سَأُصْلِيهِ سَقَرَ٢٦

[74:26] I soon will throw him in Hell.

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سَقَرُ٢٧

[74:27] And do you realize what Hell is?

لَا تُبْقِى وَلَا تَذَرُ٢٨

[74:28] It will neither finish one off nor will it leave one alone.

لَوَّاحَةٌۭ لِّلْبَشَرِ٢٩

[74:29] It will be publicized for all humans.

عَلَيْهَا تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ٣٠

[74:30] Over it is Nineteen.

وَمَا جَعَلْنَآ أَصْحَٰبَ ٱلنَّارِ إِلَّا مَلَٰٓئِكَةًۭ وَمَا جَعَلْنَا عِدَّتَهُمْ إِلَّا فِتْنَةًۭ لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِيَسْتَيْقِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ وَيَزْدَادَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِيمَٰنًۭا وَلَا يَرْتَابَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ وَلِيَقُولَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌۭ وَٱلْكَٰفِرُونَ مَاذَآ أَرَادَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَٰذَا مَثَلًۭا كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَ وَمَا هِىَ إِلَّا ذِكْرَىٰ لِلْبَشَرِ٣١

[74:31] And We appointed angels to be guardians of Hell and We have assigned their number only as a test for the unfaithful, and for the people of the scripture to attain certainty, and for the faithful to increase their faith, and that no doubts may remain for the people of the scripture and the faithful, and as for those who have a disease in their hearts and the unfaithful say, what did God mean by this example? God thus sends astray whomever He wills and guides whomever He wills. And no one knows the armies of your Lord except He and this is only a reminder for all the people.

كَلَّا وَٱلْقَمَرِ٣٢

[74:32] Absolutely, by the Moon.

وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْبَرَ٣٣

[74:33] And by the night as it covers.

وَٱلصُّبْحِ إِذَآ أَسْفَرَ٣٤

[74:34] And by the morning as it shines.

-

إِنَّهَا لَإِحْدَى ٱلْكُبَرِ٣٥

[74:35] This is indeed one of the great portents.

نَذِيرًۭا لِّلْبَشَرِ٣٦

[74:36] A warning to all humans.

لِمَن شَآءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ٣٧

[74:37] For anyone amongst you who wants to advance or regress.

كُلُّ نَفْسٍۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِينَةٌ٣٨

[74:38] Every soul is trapped by her deeds.

إِلَّآ أَصْحَٰبَ ٱلْيَمِينِ٣٩

[74:39] Except the dwellers of The Bliss.

فِى جَنَّٰتٍۢ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ٤٠

[74:40] While in Paradise they ask-

عَنِ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ٤١

[74:41] -of the guilty.

مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِى سَقَرَ٤٢

[74:42] What caused you to end up in Hell?

-

قَالُوا۟ لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ٤٣

[74:43] They say; we were not with those who prayed.

وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ ٱلْمِسْكِينَ٤٤

[74:44] Nor did we ever feed the poor.

-

وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ ٱلْخَآئِضِينَ٤٥

[74:45] And we used to blunder with the blunderers.

وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ٤٦

[74:46] And we used to deny the Day of Faith.

حَتَّىٰٓ أَتَىٰنَا ٱلْيَقِينُ٤٧

[74:47] Until we came face to face with reality.

فَمَا تَنفَعُهُمْ شَفَٰعَةُ ٱلشَّٰفِعِينَ٤٨

[74:48] Then the intercession of the intercessors did not benefit them.

فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ ٱلتَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِينَ٤٩

[74:49] Then why are they so averse to this reminder?

كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌۭ مُّسْتَنفِرَةٌۭ٥٠

[74:50] Just like donkeys running away.

فَرَّتْ مِن قَسْوَرَةٍۭ٥١

[74:51] Fleeing from a lion.

بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍۢ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُؤْتَىٰ صُحُفًۭا مُّنَشَّرَةًۭ٥٢

[74:52] On the contrary, each one of them wants to receive the scripture personally.

كَلَّا بَل لَّا يَخَافُونَ ٱلْءَاخِرَةَ٥٣

[74:53] Absolutely, they do not fear the Hereafter.

كَلَّآ إِنَّهُۥ تَذْكِرَةٌۭ٥٤

[74:54] Absolutely, this is indeed a reminder.

فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ٥٥

[74:55] Therefore, anyone who wills shall take heed.

وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ هُوَ أَهْلُ ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ وَأَهْلُ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ٥٦

[74:56] And no one will take heed, unless in accordance with God ’s will. He is the source of righteousness; He is the source of forgiveness.
