[89:1] By the dawn.

وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍۢ٢

[89:2] By the ten nights.

وَٱلشَّفْعِ وَٱلْوَتْرِ٣

[89:3] By the even and the odd.

وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ٤

[89:4] By the night as it passes.

هَلْ فِى ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٌۭ لِّذِى حِجْرٍ٥

[89:5] Is this an oath for those who possess intelligence?

أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ٦

[89:6] Do you not see what your Lord did to the Aad?

إِرَمَ ذَاتِ ٱلْعِمَادِ٧

[89:7] Eram, founded on pillars.

ٱلَّتِى لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِى ٱلْبِلَٰدِ٨

[89:8] The likes of which were not created in any civilization.

-

وَثَمُودَ ٱلَّذِينَ جَابُوا۟ ٱلصَّخْرَ بِٱلْوَادِ٩

[89:9] And to the Thamoud who carved mansions in the rocks of the valley?

وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِى ٱلْأَوْتَادِ١٠

[89:10] And to Pharaoh, possessor of might?

ٱلَّذِينَ طَغَوْا۟ فِى ٱلْبِلَٰدِ١١

[89:11] They were transgressing civilizations.

فَأَكْثَرُوا۟ فِيهَا ٱلْفَسَادَ١٢

[89:12] They continuously spread corruption.

-

فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ١٣

[89:13] Consequently, your Lord poured upon them a whipping suffering.

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِٱلْمِرْصَادِ١٤

[89:14] Indeed your Lord is ever watchful.

-

فَأَمَّا ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ إِذَا مَا ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَأَكْرَمَهُۥ وَنَعَّمَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَكْرَمَنِ١٥

[89:15] When the human being is tested by His Lord, and He honors him and blesses him, he says, my Lord has honored me.

وَأَمَّآ إِذَا مَا ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَهَٰنَنِ١٦

[89:16] But when He puts him to a test and reduces his provisions, he then says, my Lord has humiliated me.

كَلَّا بَل لَّا تُكْرِمُونَ ٱلْيَتِيمَ١٧

[89:17] No absolutely not! It is you who has not honored the fatherless.

وَلَا تَحَٰٓضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ١٨

[89:18] And have never encouraged feeding the poor.

وَتَأْكُلُونَ ٱلتُّرَاثَ أَكْلًۭا لَّمًّۭا١٩

[89:19] And have devoured inheritance with greed.

وَتُحِبُّونَ ٱلْمَالَ حُبًّۭا جَمًّۭا٢٠

[89:20] And you loved money with unending love.

كَلَّآ إِذَا دُكَّتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ دَكًّۭا دَكًّۭا٢١

[89:21] Absolutely, when the land is utterly pulverized,-

وَجَآءَ رَبُّكَ وَٱلْمَلَكُ صَفًّۭا صَفًّۭا٢٢

[89:22] -and your Lord comes as well as the angels, row after row,-

وَجِا۟ىٓءَ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بِجَهَنَّمَ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ٢٣

[89:23] -on that day, Gehenna will be brought forth. On that day the human will be reminded, and what a reminder.

يَقُولُ يَٰلَيْتَنِى قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِى٢٤

[89:24] He will say, O I wish I had prepared for my life.

فَيَوْمَئِذٍۢ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌۭ٢٥

[89:25] Then on that day, his suffering will be like none other.

وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌۭ٢٦

[89:26] And His confinement will be like none other.

يَٰٓأَيَّتُهَا ٱلنَّفْسُ ٱلْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ٢٧

[89:27] As for you, O contented soul,-

ٱرْجِعِىٓ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةًۭ مَّرْضِيَّةًۭ٢٨

[89:28] -return to your Lord, pleased, and pleasing.

فَٱدْخُلِى فِى عِبَٰدِى٢٩

[89:29] Enter along with My servants,-

وَٱدْخُلِى جَنَّتِى٣٠

[89:30] -and enter My Paradise.
