ثُمَّ قَسَتْ قُلُوبُكُم مِّنۢ بَعْدِ ذَٰلِكَ فَهِىَ كَٱلْحِجَارَةِ أَوْ أَشَدُّ قَسْوَةًۭ وَإِنَّ مِنَ ٱلْحِجَارَةِ لَمَا يَتَفَجَّرُ مِنْهُ ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ وَإِنَّ مِنْهَا لَمَا يَشَّقَّقُ فَيَخْرُجُ مِنْهُ ٱلْمَآءُ وَإِنَّ مِنْهَا لَمَا يَهْبِطُ مِنْ خَشْيَةِ ٱللَّهِ وَمَا ٱللَّهُ بِغَٰفِلٍ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ ﴿٧٤﴾
[2:74]
Subsequently, your hearts were hardened after all this, like rocks or even much harder. Indeed streams can gush out of some rocks, others crack and water will gently come out of them, and indeed some of them cringe from the fear of God . And God is never unaware of what you do.

أَفَتَطْمَعُونَ أَن يُؤْمِنُوا۟ لَكُمْ وَقَدْ كَانَ فَرِيقٌۭ مِّنْهُمْ يَسْمَعُونَ كَلَٰمَ ٱللَّهِ ثُمَّ يُحَرِّفُونَهُۥ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا عَقَلُوهُ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ ﴿٧٥﴾
[2:75]
Do you expect them to believe for your sake? Some of them hear the word of God and change it after fully understanding it, while they know.

وَإِذَا لَقُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ قَالُوٓا۟ ءَامَنَّا وَإِذَا خَلَا بَعْضُهُمْ إِلَىٰ بَعْضٍۢ قَالُوٓا۟ أَتُحَدِّثُونَهُم بِمَا فَتَحَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْكُمْ لِيُحَآجُّوكُم بِهِۦ عِندَ رَبِّكُمْ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ ﴿٧٦﴾
[2:76]
And when they meet those who are faithful, they say, we believe, and when they are secluded with one another, they say, should you enlighten them with what God has clarified for you, so they can argue with you about your Lord? Have you lost your mind?

Translation:And when they meet those who are faithful, they say, we believe, and when they are secluded with one another, they say, should you enlighten them with what God has clarified for you, so they can argue with you about your Lord? Have you lost your mind?

Do they not realize that indeed God knows what they conceal and what they declare?

And amongst them are the laymen who do not know the scripture except for what they are presented with and indeed they only conjecture.

فَوَيْلٌۭ لِّلَّذِينَ يَكْتُبُونَ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ بِأَيْدِيهِمْ ثُمَّ يَقُولُونَ هَٰذَا مِنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ لِيَشْتَرُوا۟ بِهِۦ ثَمَنًۭا قَلِيلًۭا فَوَيْلٌۭ لَّهُم مِّمَّا كَتَبَتْ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَوَيْلٌۭ لَّهُم مِّمَّا يَكْسِبُونَ ﴿٧٩﴾
[2:79]
Therefore, woe to those who write the scripture with their hand and say this is from God in order to obtain a cheap material gain. Woe to them for what they wrote and woe to them for what they gained.

Translation:Therefore, woe to those who write the scripture with their hand and say this is from God in order to obtain a cheap material gain. Woe to them for what they wrote and woe to them for what they gained.

وَقَالُوا۟ لَن تَمَسَّنَا ٱلنَّارُ إِلَّآ أَيَّامًۭا مَّعْدُودَةًۭ قُلْ أَتَّخَذْتُمْ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ عَهْدًۭا فَلَن يُخْلِفَ ٱللَّهُ عَهْدَهُۥٓ أَمْ تَقُولُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ ﴿٨٠﴾
[2:80]
And they said, hellfire will not touch us except for a few days. Say, have you received a promise from God ? Remember God does not break His promise, or are you saying about God what you do not know?

بَلَىٰ مَن كَسَبَ سَيِّئَةًۭ وَأَحَٰطَتْ بِهِۦ خَطِيٓـَٔتُهُۥ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلنَّارِ هُمْ فِيهَا خَٰلِدُونَ ﴿٨١﴾

Yes indeed, those who earned evil and are surrounded by their wrongs are subsequently the dwellers of the Hell wherein they will abide forever.

وَإِذْ أَخَذْنَا مِيثَٰقَ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ لَا تَعْبُدُونَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَ وَبِٱلْوَٰلِدَيْنِ إِحْسَانًۭا وَذِى ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ وَٱلْيَتَٰمَىٰ وَٱلْمَسَٰكِينِ وَقُولُوا۟ لِلنَّاسِ حُسْنًۭا وَأَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتُوا۟ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ ثُمَّ تَوَلَّيْتُمْ إِلَّا قَلِيلًۭا مِّنكُمْ وَأَنتُم مُّعْرِضُونَ ﴿٨٣﴾
[2:83]
And We took a covenant from the Children of Israel, that you shall not worship except God , and be good to your parents and the relatives and the fatherless and the needy and speak to the people amicably, and observe the contact prayer and give the cleansing charity, but you turned away, except for a few of you, and you became objectors.
